A Weblog or diary that acts as a unique space for an individual or a company where users can post text and pictures. Blogs have already been recognised as an important communications tool for both consumers and business. Microsoft, Guinness and GM are just some of the companies using them.

Convergence
The coming together of competing forms of media spurred by advances in technology. Increasingly the media and content worlds are converging with the access world.

Cookie
A small text file on the user's PC that identifies the user's browser and hence, the user so that they are 'recognised' when they re-visit a site.

CTR (Clickthrough rate)
The percentage of viewers of a link who then click on it.

ISP (Internet Service Provider)
A company that provides dial-up or other kinds of access to the Internet to individuals and businesses.

PPC ( Pay Per Click)
This is the terminology given to Search engine advertising. Its success had been in its simplicity at delivering qualified traffic to a site. A typical PPC advertisement consists of only text which is split into a short title and slightly longer description. The adverts will appear when the user tyrpes in relevant keywords into a search engine.

Rich Media
Online advertising that goes beyond the traditional banner. Can feature audio, video and offers increased consumer interaction.

SEO  (Search Engine Optimisation)
The process of making a site and its content highly relevant for both search engines and searchers. Search engines are the way in which 90% of people locate the internet resources they need and Google have a 75% market share in Eurpope & North America. 84% of searchers never make it past he bottom of page 2 of Google.

Triple Play
The bundling together of a range of communications services for consumers including fixed-line telephony, mobile telephony and broadband Internet access.

URL (Uniform Resource Locator)
The technical name for a Web address. For example http://www.evolvdigital.com. The URL allows you to locate services via the Internet.

User Generated Content
Content that is generated by the user or the consumer rather than the publisher or the advertiser.

Web 2.0
Collective name for the way consumers are now behaving on the Internet. Mass take-up of broadband means more engagement and interaction. It covers blogs, RSS and podcasting.
